Location: Innermost of the cape end, east of Koh Lanta Yai
How to get there:
From Talad Saladan, drive southward skirting by the Westside beach passing Klong Tobe Beach and continue along the Highway No. 4245 on the way to Koh Lanta Hospital. About 4 kilometers further the hospital, the fisherman village Ban Sang Ka-U is there about 27 kilometers away from the market.
In the old days, he sea gypsies or Thai Mai of Ban Sang Ka-U built their home by the west coast surrounded by what were once a mangrove and white fine beach. Nowadays they have moved to live by the end of the island to the east at Haad Hin near Koh Por and Koh Bu Bu.
After the relocation, the fishermen at Ban Sang Ka-U today build their house in more modernized way, but one thing that tourists can stil learn form them is their life styles mainly with small-sized fishery using local boats and man-made equipment the same as their traditional and cultural practice. Tourists are welcome to closely observe the boating ceremony for bad luck relief or Loy Ruea Chao Lay Festval held yearly in April and October.
About a kilometer before reaching Ban Sang Ka-U is a nice viewpoint worth visiting at the Sun Shine hill Viewpoint Restaurant. Its hillside location offers a panoramic view of the east coast which is make up of rocky beaches, mangroves, and the islets of Krabi and Trang.
